Aidan Muse Addresses Environmental Change on New Song “Progress” – World Music Central

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

SUDAN ARCHIVES – “MS. PAC MAN”

R&B/hip hop trailblazer Sudan Archives has shared a raunchy new taste of her upcoming album The BPM.

JAY SOM – “CARDS ON THE TABLE”

Jay Som’s first new album in over 6 years, Belong, is out in October, and the latest single is electro-indie track “Cards on the Table.” She calls it her favorite song on the album, saying, “It’s about the shifting nature of friendships and how devastating conflict can be in platonic relationships when you feel misunderstood by each other. I think it’s a universal experience to navigate that type of dynamic. It feels like a never-ending cycle of people walking in and out of your life, but it ultimately leads to self discovery and growth.”

—

POOL KIDS – “SORRY NOT SORRY”

Pool Kids’ new album Easier Said Than Done arrives this Friday and here’s one more single: an indie ballad called “Sorry Not Sorry.”

—

VILLAGERRR – “RIDE OR DIE” (FT. LYDIA SLOCUM OF FEEBLE LITTLE HORSE)

villagerrr has signed to Winspear, who will reissue his 2024 album Tear Your Heart Out with five previously unreleased tracks, and give it its first vinyl pressing. The first of those unreleased tracks is “Ride or Die,” featuring Lydia Slocum of feeble little horse. “I just wanted to write a pop song that felt good and fun,” villagerrr says, “and I love Lydia’s voice and went out on a whim to see if she’d wanna sing on the song.”

—

RISE AGAINST – “RICOCHET”

—

KITBA – “WOLF’S MOUTH”

Kitba’s new album Hold The Edges arrives next month, and they’ve given us another preview with “Wolf’s Mouth.” “The song is based on a recurring childhood nightmare where I was in a room with a filing cabinet in the corner and a large wolf that would open its mouth,” Kitba says. “I would place my head inside its mouth and then wake up. I never got to see beyond the bite and I often wonder what was in the cabinet and why, when I eventually became less scared of the wolf, he disappeared. This song is about being ready to let the unknown consume me.”

—

FEARDORIAN & OSQUINN – “BAGS”

—

GUERILLA TOSS – “CEO OF PERSONAL & PLEASURE”

“Instead of marinating in the void, I’ve chosen to gaslight myself into greatness by firing my inner critic and reinstating myself as the slightly unhinged CEO of my own emotional start-up,” says Guerilla Toss’ Kassie Carlson of the band’s latest synth-drenched single. “The CEO of Personal & Pleasure doesn’t have a 5-year delusion, but I do have dogs, vicious optimism, and a vague idea that being alive should occasionally feel good. Late-stage capitalism meets self-care nihilism … and blooming from it, the CEO of Personal and Pleasure.” New album You’re Weird Now was produced by Stephen Malkmus and is out September 12.

—

IVY – “HEARTBREAK”

Ivy’s new album Traces of You, which features their late bassist Adam Schlesinger on every song, is out September 5 and here’s another single from it. “This song was demo’d around 2010. I started playing the electric guitar against a terribly outdated drum beat,” says the band’s Andy Chase. “Adam added the bass part you hear as well as that super cheesy synth idea that’s still there in the background. It quickly got veto’d by Dominique, and we couldn’t blame her – it was pretty lame sounding, and all our melody ideas were terrible. In 2023 Bruce came up with the chorus chords and melody, and the lyrics pushed it even more in the right direction. By the time our dear friend Brian Young came in and played the hard hitting Motown beat you hear, we were getting excited. We came up with a horn section that Eric Matthews helped bring to life. Bruce’s wife, Marie, is singing the harmony with Dominique. If we ever play this live there are going to be a lot of people on stage!”

—
