Keith Urban has apologized to his fans as he was forced to cancel a show weeks after Nicole Kidman filed for divorce.
The Grammy Award winner, 57, was due to perform at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina, as part of his High and Alive World Tour on Thursday night but has been advised by doctors to rest, meaning the gig won’t go ahead.
The latest update came as a clip showed Keith as he opened up about the loneliness and hardship that comes with life on the road during an unreleased episode of his new CBS and Paramount competition series, The Road, premiering October 19.
The official Facebook profile of the Bon Secours Wellness Arena said the country star has been advised by his longtime laryngologist Dr. Gaelyn Garrett, from the Vanderbilt Voice Center, to cancel his performance “due to laryngitis which began earlier this week.”
The music venue said Keith has been placed “on complete vocal rest” but his doctor is “optimistic” that he will be able to perform again for his Nashville show.
It comes as Urban spoke about isolation in the upcoming episode of The Road, saying, “Where do we start? It’s a calling, and you’re going to do it or you’re not going to make it.”
He shared, “When you wake up on a tour bus at 3:30 in the morning and you’re sick as a dog, you’re in the middle of nowhere and you’ve got to play your fifth show later that night, and you haven’t slept, and you miss your friends, and you’re missing your family, and you’re completely lonely and miserable and sick, and you say to yourself, ‘Why am I doing this?’
“The only answer can be: Because this is what I’m born to do.”
At the end of September, Oscar-winning actress Nicole, 58, filed for divorce from the country singer in a Nashville court.
The documents state the couple has undergone “marital difficulties and irreconcilable differences.” The filings also include a marriage dissolution and childcare plan agreed on by the couple and submitted for a judge’s approval.
“The mother and father will behave with each other and each child so as to provide a loving, stable, consistent and nurturing relationship with the child even though they are divorced,” says the permanent parenting plan, using language common in the state’s divorces.
“They will not speak badly of each other or the members of the family of the other parent. They will encourage each child to continue to love the other parent and be comfortable in both families.”
The plan asks that Nicole be the primary residential parent to the couple’s two daughters, aged 17 and 14, having them for 306 days per year with Keith taking them for the other 59.
