Kelly Clarkson is officially starring to return to her normal life following the death of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, and that includes breaking her silence on social media.
The singer and talk show host revealed in August that she had taken time off from her show and postponed her Las Vegas residency because her ex-husband, with whom she shares two children, was sick, and he died one day later from skin cancer.
While he has since been said to have also had other significant conditions prior to his death, Clarkson took time to mourn and be with her children as they coped with the loss of their father.
Now, as she slowly starts returning to her normal day-to-day life, which includes hosting her show, she is also taking to social media for the first time since the news of his death.
While she is still staying quiet about her ex there, she did take time to reflect on her journey to fame–which officially began when she won American Idol 23 years ago.
Taking to Instagram, she reflected on her win in an emotional post, revealing the gratitude she had for all the people who voted for her and gave her the life she always imagined.
“To everyone that took time 23 years ago to call in and vote for me, thank you,” she wrote alongside a throwback picture of her win.
“Winning American idol changed my life ad I will be forever grateful for all of you that have supported me for so many years. It is a gift to find your purpose and passion, and to be able to make a living doing it is the cherry on top. Thank you, always.”
The post was met with words of support from other Idol alums and celebrities.
“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away,” a statement from his family said at the time.
“Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three year.s He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”
Blackstock and Clarkson married in 2013, and welcomed their daughter, River Rose, the following June. Their son, Remington Alexander, was born in April 2016.
The two split in June 2020, when Clarkson filed for divorce, and was finalized in 2022.
