TV personality Kelly Osbourne has lashed out after a WWE wrestler exploited Ozzy Osbourne’s recent death in a promotional speech on Monday Night Raw in Birmingham, England.
The mourning daughter of the Black Sabbath icon expressed her fury at her father’s name being dragged into a segment by Irish star Becky Lynch.
The “heel” – a term used for villains in wrestling – utilized her platform at BP Pulse Live arena at Birmingham’s NEC on Monday, August 25 to mock the city.
Confronting rival Nikki Bella, Becky declared, “I am not wrestling in Birmingham. The only good thing that came out of here died a month ago.”
She added, “Ozzy Osbourne has the good sense to move to LA, a proper city. If I lived in Birmingham, I’d die too.”
In the comments on BirminghamLive‘s Facebook page, Liam Luckham wrote, “I think you need to learn what wrestling actually is it’s basically pantomime.
“You get the villains whose job it is to wind the crowd up. I’m sure Ozzy would be cool with it.”
Fan Vicky Wood added, “I know the wrestling is all scripted and choreographed but this was too far too soon.”
Becky is scheduled to compete against Nikki Bella at WWE’s forthcoming premium live event, Clash in Paris, slated for August 31.
The Irish grappler, who shares a daughter with fellow WWE performer Seth Rollins, has remained silent on the matter since.
Kelly shared a heartfelt tribute to her late father on social media following his passing at the age of 76 on July 22.
She said, “I’ve sat down to write this a hundred times and still don’t know if the words will ever feel like enough… but from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
“The love, support, and beautiful messages I’ve received from so many of you have truly helped carry me through the hardest moment of my life. Every kind word, every shared memory, every bit of compassion has meant more than I can ever explain.
“Grief is a strange thing-it sneaks up on you in waves-I will not be ok for a while-but knowing my family are not alone in our pain makes a difference. I’m holding on tight to the love, the light, and the legacy left behind. Thank you for being there. I love you all so much.”
