With the NBA Finals happening right now, Ken Jennings recently shared his thoughts on the best player in the sport.
In a video posted to Instagram on June 8, Ken called on an audience member with a basketball question. The viewer asked Ken if he had thoughts about which baller was the best in the game—and Ken’s response caused an uproar from the audience.
“Greatest basketball player of all time?” Ken asked in the clip. “See, in L.A., everyone wants me to say Kobe, and I don’t think it’s Kobe.”
After hearing the audience’s reaction, he defended himself by offering another legend.
“I’m going to say Jordan, not LeBron,” he quickly added, with the audience clapping in his favor. “I don’t know. It might just be generational, you know? Like it’s the age that when you watch the most games … if I was 20 years older, I’d probably say, like, ‘It’s Bill Russell! It’s Oscar Robinson! It’s not Michael Jordan!’ I think it’s Jordan.”
When the video began to circulate online, it was clear that fans shared a similar view.
“Correct answer, Ken. 👍🏻,” one person wrote in the comments. “I have the same exact Jordan / LeBron conversation with my son weekly. I agree that one’s answer is very generational,” another agreed. “Not generational. Just the facts. Jordan 🐐,” a different follower added.
We’ll be thinking about this going into the next game of the NBA Finals!
