Amelia Mignonette Thermopolis Renaldi, is that you? Kendall Jenner took a perfect style cue from the Princess of Genovia this week, bringing back the character’s iconic purple-and-green beach look, but reimagining it in her own minimalist way.
In The Princess Diaries, Mia—played, of course, by a teenage Anne Hathaway—attends a beach party with her high school piers only to be humiliated by a group of mean “cool” girls and a floppy-haired jock. She leaves the beach in tears, but looking kind of fabulous in a purple long-sleeve top and a lime-green wrap skirt with a sky-blue flower print. All very Y2K.
Whether or not she meant to, Jenner channeled Mia’s very look this past weekend, when she paired a slinky lavender top with a silky lime skirt to attend childhood friend Hannah Logan’s beach wedding in Mexico’s Cabo San Lucas.
Jenner’s top was sleeveless and fitted, unlike Mia’s baggy number, and her maxi skirt was a more elevated version of a beach skirt—but you get the idea. The unexpected purple-and-green color combination undeniably still works.
Jenner accessorized her wedding-guest look with a raffia clutch and little silver huggies. For glam, she slicked her hair back into a ponytail and wore a bold raspberry lip.
Close enough. Welcome back, Mia Thermopolis.
