One of the most highly-anticipated movies of next year is the mysterious collaboration between musician Kendrick Lamar and South Park masterminds Trey Parker and Matt Stone. We know precious little about the film, which is written by Vernon Chatman. Lamar, Parker, and Stone are producers on the live-action comedy, but we have no idea if they’re going to star in the film.
It seems we’re going to have to wait a bit longer to find out, as the untitled movie has been delayed indefinitely from its March 20, 2026 release date, per Variety. When it was first announced, the movie was scheduled from July 4, 2025, which fueled speculation that it might be somehow related to the criminally underrated Team America: World Police. Now that it’s being pushed from March, I wonder if maybe they’ll go for the July 4 weekend of 2026 to return to a variant of the original plan. In a corporate statement, Park County (Parker & Stone’s company) and PGLang (Lamar’s company) said that the teams in charge are working hard on finishing the movie, indicating that the delay is just a simple matter of the movie not being quite ready for the originally intended release date.
In any case, there’s not much to say about the movie. We don’t know what it’s about, we don’t know who’s in it, and we don’t know when it’s going to come out. Still, Kendrick Lamar is one of the biggest music artists on the planet right now, and people are still talking about his standout Super Bowl halftime show. Ooh, I wonder if Samuel L. Jackson will be in the movie! Meanwhile, Parker & Stone are currently hard at work on the new season of South Park, which has seen impressive ratings and critical acclaim. When there’s more to report, we’ll jump on it! But until then, there’s still two episodes of South Park still to come this season, so let’s focus on what’s in front of us for the time being.
