Kim Kardashian revealed that her ex-husband Kanye West hasn’t seen their kids in a “couple months” on Wednesday’s episode of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast.
“What do you think co-parenting with Kanye West is like?” the reality star asked with a laugh, later adding, “It’s not easy.”
“I raise the kids full-time. They live with me, and I welcome a great, healthy relationship with my kids and their dad. He knows that I push for it all the time, but I also protect them when it’s time for that, and it goes in waves and phases, and it’s a lot of work,” she said.
Kardashian was married to West, who now goes by “Ye,” from 2014 to 2021. Since the divorce, Ye, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2016, has been a vocal critic of Kardashian and her family.
In Ye’s documentary “In Whose Name?” that was released last month, the rapper can be seen yelling at Kardashian’s mother, Kris Jenner, telling her she had affected his mental health and then later saying that he would rather be “dead than on medication.”
In 2022, Ye accused Kardashian of “kidnapping” their daughter Chicago.
On Wednesday’s podcast episode, Kardashian said that it’s a misconception that she doesn’t allow Ye to see their four kids. She said anytime Ye asks to see the kids, she allows it. “It’s just a totally different narrative than what the reality is, and that just really sucks.”
She added that her oldest daughter, 12-year-old North West, recently gave her some advice.
“I say such positive things about their dad that North had to say to me, ‘Mom, I think you go upstairs and, like, cry at night. It’s OK. It’s time to move on. You need to have a boyfriend now,’” Kardashian shared. “I’m like, wait, what?”
Kardashian said Ye’s larger-than-life personality first drew her to him, but eventually, their relationship became “toxic,” and she knew she needed to leave the marriage for the sake of their four kids.
“Once my mental health starts to get affected, and then I can’t parent the way that I need to, and I can’t be present and focused, there’s got to be one of us that can, and I had to save myself in order to be a better mom for everyone,” she said.
Kardashian said she couldn’t say what the final straw was for the end of the relationship. Instead, there were “just a lot of things” that she couldn’t deal with. When Ye would speak badly about Kardashian’s mom, Kardashian said she “didn’t feel safe emotionally or even financially.”
During one of Ye’s mental health episodes, Kardashian claimed, he gave away all five of the couple’s Lamborghinis to his friends.
“I didn’t know what you’re gonna get when you wake up,” Kardashian said. “And that’s a really unsettling feeling.”
Ye’s reps did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Kardashian said when she divorced Ye in 2021, she thought she wouldn’t be able to be a part of the fashion and art world because he was the one who had introduced her to that world.
“Some of my biggest projects came about after I made that decision, and some of my best relationships with fashion and art and all these things that I thought I had to give up or told I wasn’t gonna have any more,” Kardashian said. “And it was the universe just rewarding me and showing me that I was moving in the right direction.”
Besides opening up about her divorce with Ye, Kardashian also spoke about some of her most famous moments, like when she lost her diamond earrings in Bora Bora, which was captured on “Keeping Up With The Kardashians.” She said she was so upset because the earrings weren’t yet insured.
She also sought to clear up a rumor about her mother, saying Jenner and her longtime boyfriend Corey Gamble are still together, and gave her take on the so-called Kardashian curse, the idea that men who have a relationship with one of the Kardashians will have their lives ruined.
“It’s really unfair to say women are the problem when it comes to issues our exes might be dealing with,” she said.
