“Jimmy Kimmel Live” guest host Ike Barinholtz on Monday cast doubt on a new photo of Sen. Mitch McConnell released over the weekend to show he was recovering after nearly a month in the hospital.
“Some people have been speculating online, maybe, that this is not a current photo of Mitch McConnell,” actor/comic Barinholtz said. “But I don’t know. I mean, he’s holding a newspaper. Can we just zoom in on that paper?”
Naturally, the zoom revealed the famous 1948 headline “Dewey Defeats Truman.”
“No wonder he looks so young,” cracked Barinholtz.
McConnell’s office released a statement with the image saying he had been injured in a fall and treated for “mild” pneumonia, but that he has been moved from a hospital to a rehabilitation facility as he recovers.
“In all seriousness, though, I do want to extend well wishes to Sen. McConnell,” Barinholtz said. “I hope you get the quality health care you fought so hard to deny everyone else. So, thank you. Pulling for you, Mitch.”
