King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands plan to pull a FIFA World Cup double, including a stop in Kansas City.
The King recently announced plans to be in the U.S. on June 20. That day, the Netherlands will take on Sweden in Houston in a game that is scheduled to begin at noon.
The couple then will fly from Houston to Kansas City for the Curacao-Ecuador match that begins at 7 p.m. at Arrowhead — “Kansas City” — Stadium. Curacao is an island nation within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Curacao, located 40 miles north of Venezuela, is the smallest country by area (171 square miles) and population (about 160,000) to ever qualify for the World Cup.
The Netherlands’ base camp will be in Kansas City at the KC Current Training Center in Riverside. The team is expected to arrive on Tuesday, June 9. The Dutch will play a group-stage game in Kansas City on June 25 against Tunisia.
