King Charles and Queen Camilla attended a state dinner at the White House to round off a second busy day in Washington DC. The royal couple travelled to the US on Monday, beginning a busy four-day visit alongside US President Donald Trump.
Greeted by President Trump and his wife, Melania, as well as a US Military Colour Guard, Their Majesties posed for photographs before being escorted into the East Room at the White House. As well as the King and Queen, the US President was joined by a host of high-profile figures from politics, television and tech.
For what the guests were tucking into, the Daily Express looks at what was on the menu for those in attendance last night.
The first of four courses offered a plate of delicate garden-herb velouté, silken and aromatic, complemented by a refreshing hearts-of-palm salad.
The dish was finished with crisp toasted shallots and a whisper of micro mint for brightness and contrast.
The second course is made of a handcrafted spring herb ravioli, featuring herbs from the White House Kitchen Garden, generously filled with creamy ricotta and earthy morels. The dish is gently dressed with a light Parmesan emulsion, which enhances the plate’s essence.
The third course is made of a classic Dover sole meunière, expertly prepared and bathed in a nutty brown butter. To accompany the fish, the plate also featured tender spring ramps, sweet snow peas, layered potatoes pavé, and a vibrant parsley oil for a refined, seasonal finish.
For dessert, guests will be served a sweet beehive-shaped chocolate gâteau with a smooth vanilla bean crémeux custard, delicately set inside with an almond joconde.
The refined, feather-light sponge joconde will provide the dessert a nutty taste, balanced with a brown butter crumble. The beehive will be complemented with crème fraîche ice cream and White House honey.
To complement the courses, a selection of wines will be available to guests, including Hopkins Riesling “Heritage” 2024, Hopkins Vineyards, The Penner-Ash Pinot Noir “Willamette Valley” 2022, Penner-Ash Wine Cellars and The Newton Chardonnay “Unfiltered” 2022, Newton Vineyard.
