Samuel Chatto, Princess Margaret’s grandson, is engaged to Eleanor Ekserdjian — the couple are both 29 years old and work as artists, living together in London
Buckingham Palace has shared the delightful announcement that Samuel Chatto, grandson of Princess Margaret, is set to marry his long-term partner, Eleanor Ekserdjian.
Both aged 29 and working as artists, the pair share a home in London.
Samuel’s parents, Lady Sarah and Daniel Chatto, along with Eleanor’s family, are believed to be overjoyed for the couple, who are thought to have begun their relationship in 2021. King Charles has been notified and is reportedly delighted for them.
The wedding is scheduled to take place next spring. Showcasing his artistic flair, Sam crafted his fiancée’s engagement ring from porcelain.
Sharing the news on Instagram with a series of photographs, Sam posted: “I’m really delighted to say that Ellie and I are engaged. And we couldn’t be happier. I proposed with a porcelain ring which I made. @e.ekserdjian”.
Many had anticipated that nuptials were on the horizon for the duo, particularly after Eleanor received an invitation to spend Christmas with Sam and the Royal Family at Sandringham, reports the Express.
Such an invitation is traditionally extended only to committed partners or those already engaged. This occasion represents one of the rare opportunities for the public to witness the royals together, as they make their way from Sandringham House to attend the Christmas Day church service.
Sam is the oldest among Princess Margaret’s four grandchildren, which also includes his younger sibling, Arthur Chatto, and their two cousins, Charles Armstrong-Jones, Viscount Linley, and Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones. His parents are Margaret’s daughter Lady Sarah Chatto and her husband Daniel, who tied the knot in July 1994 and are also parents to a younger son named Arthur.
Samuel David Benedict Chatto was born on 28th July 1996 in London and, in keeping with family tradition, was educated at Eton College. He subsequently went on to read art history at the University of Edinburgh.
Sam Chatto graduated with an MA in History of Art from the University of Edinburgh in 2018, having previously attended the prestigious Eton College. Developing a love for art from an early age, Sam went on to pursue ceramics as a career.
It is also reported that he undertook a yoga teacher training course in India in 2019.
Less is known about his future bride, other than the fact that she is also 29 and studied at the University of Edinburgh, though it remains unclear whether the pair met and began their romance there.
Eleanor’s father, Professor David Ekserdjian, is a distinguished art historian who holds the position of Professor of History of Art and Film at the University of Leicester.
Professor Ekserdjian is married to Susan Moore, who serves as an art critic for the Financial Times.
Eleanor herself is a painter, and one of her works, entitled ‘SAM’, was a sketch of her then-boyfriend, which was once exhibited at The Gallery at Green & Stone’s summer show.
