King Charles and Queen Camilla met Prince Harry, his wife Meghan, and their two children on Friday at the King’s Highgrove estate in western England, marking Charles’ first meeting with his grandchildren Archie and Lilibet since 2022.
A palace source described the news agency Reuters the meeting as a private family occasion and said no photographs, videos or further details would be released.
The meeting came amid Prince Harry’s five-day visit to Britain for charity engagements and the judgment in a major privacy case he brought against the British media. Before arriving, Harry had reportedly been in a dispute with Buckingham Palace over security arrangements and where he would stay.
Harry has visited Britain only once or twice a year since he and Meghan moved to the United States with their children following a high-profile falling out with his father, King Charles, and his elder brother, Prince William.
King Charles, 77, who is undergoing treatment for cancer, has rarely seen his grandchildren since they were born. Harry said last year that he wanted to reconcile with his family because he did “not know how much longer my father has.”
The reunion followed a difficult week for Harry. The 41-year-old prince lost a privacy case against the publisher of the Daily Mail, an action he said his father had compared to “a suicide mission.”
Harry has remained estranged from most of the royal family since stepping down as a working royal six years ago. He has repeatedly criticised the family in interviews and in his 2023 memoir, Spare.
Friday’s meeting marked the first time King Charles and Prince Harry had met in person since September.
Harry had wanted to bring Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, to Britain earlier, but the family did not reach an agreement over police protection arrangements with the government. Last year, Harry lost a court battle over his security arrangements, which he has said contributed to the breakdown of his relationship with his father.
