King Charles has reportedly offered accommodation in royal lodgings for when Prince Harry and his family visit the UK this year, years after the couple were asked to vacate Frogmore Cottage.
Prince Harry is set to return to the UK in preparation for the Invictus Games in 2027 and is expected to bring his family with him.
The Sun revealed that King Charles has used this opportunity to extend an olive branch to his estranged son.
The 77-year-old, who is still managing his cancer battle, has reportedly offered the family of four security arrangements as well as royal accommodation.
Prince Harry has previously stated that he does not feel safe bringing his family to the UK without sufficient security protection.
“The UK is my home. The UK is central to the heritage of my children and a place I want them to feel at home as much as where they live at the moment in the United States,” Harry said in a statement to the High Court of London in 2023.
“That cannot happen if there is no possibility to keep them safe when they are on UK soil.
“I can’t put my wife in danger like that, and given my experiences in life, I’m reluctant to unnecessarily put myself in harm’s way too.”
The Duke was stripped of his taxpayer-funded protection in 2020 after he and Meghan Markle stepped back as working members of the royal family.
He has since fought to regain automatic taxpayer-funded armed police protection from the UK government’s Executive Committee whenever he and his family visit Britain.
He was left disappointed by his father following the loss of his appeal against the UK government’s decision on his security arrangements in 2025, telling the BBC that King Charles “won’t speak to me because of this security stuff”.
The generous offer comes three years after the Montecito-based couple were asked to vacate their Frogmore Cottage residence, as they were no longer working royals and spent most of their time living in the United States.
Details of the arrangements are yet to be confirmed, but sources suggest the olive branch could signal that father and son are moving closer to ending their years-long rift.
Alongside preparations for the Invictus Games, an insider told The Sun that Prince Harry plans to fill “pockets of downtime” during his visit with possible catch-ups with his father.
This will mark the first visit to the UK in four years for Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5.
King Charles has not met his grandchildren since Queen Elizabeth II’s jubilee in 2022 according to reports.
The last time Prince Harry saw his father was in September 2025 for a quick catch up over tea.
“He obviously saw his father in September; they speak regularly, and there is a hope they will both be able to find time in their schedules to catch up when Harry is in the UK,” the insider said.
Harry, Meghan and their two children are expected to be in London and Birmingham from July 6 through July 10 for a series of engagements, including a one-year countdown celebration for the 2027 Invictus Games.
