In the book The Windsor Legacy: A Royal Dynasty, author Robert Jobson claims that Andrew Mountbatten Windsor once asked for $42,000 to cover the cost of live-in spiritual gurus to treat him at his home. King Charles III was allegedly “horrified” by the request and said no. Their mother, Queen Elizabeth II, however, previously “passed the request through.”

The refusal from King Charles III is part of an effort to streamline the royal family’s spending. “The palace began to shift, not loudly, but unmistakably. His mark was there, quiet but undeniable,” Robert Jobson wrote of the monarch. One senior insider reportedly told him, “This isn’t about financial cuts. … It’s about getting value for money and efficiency. Sometimes less truly is more.”

King Charles III isn’t only cutting off Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. He’s also reportedly making moves to stop all non-working members of the royal family from securing housing that’s bankrolled by The Firm. A second source told Robert Jobson, “Properties will be let at commercial rates going forward and to people outside the family. Where it is in a palace environment, they will, of course, be security vetted.” A third source added, “The king isn’t running a housing association for distant relatives.”

The tightening of the purse strings is an opportunity for King Charles III to strengthen the royal family as an institution. “There have been staff cutbacks. That started straight away. The buzz phrase in the household now is ‘value for money,'” a fourth source told Robert Jobson.
