Andrew Mountbatten Windsor has been formally stripped of all his royal titles.
King Charles, Andrew’s older brother, made the removal of “his royal highness” official on Wednesday after issuing a Letters Patent, a document that can bestow or remove appointments or titles.
“THE KING has been pleased by Letters Patent under the Great Seal of the Realm dated 3 November 2025 to declare that Andrew Mountbatten Windsor shall no longer be entitled to hold and enjoy the style, title or attribute of ‘Royal Highness’ and the titular dignity of ‘Prince,’” reads the announcement published in The Gazette, the U.K.’s official public record.
The title Duke of York was also removed by the monarch.
Last week, King Charles announced he initiated the formal process of removing all royal titles and designations from his disgraced brother after reports revealed his close relationship with convicted U.S. sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Andrew, 65, is also required to vacate from Royal Lodge, 30-room mansion near Windsor Castle. He is expected to move to a property on the private Sandringham estate in Norfolk, about 200 km north of London. The estate is owned by King Charles after he inherited it from his mother, Queen Elizabeth, following her death in September 2022.
“These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement on Oct. 30.
Andrew’s downfall follows revelations about his relationship with the now-deceased Epstein that were detailed in Virginia Giuffre’s posthumously published memoir, Nobody’s Girl.
Giuffre, one of Epstein’s accusers, revealed in the book how she was allegedly sex trafficked as a teenager and claimed she was forced to have sex with Andrew on three occasions.
Giuffre was 41 years old when she took her life earlier this year while living in Australia, shortly after the book was completed.
“Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse,” Buckingham Palace said last week.
