Sources claim that Andrew had “dug his heels in” regarding the choice but it ultimately became “intolerable” for the King.
Last week, Andrew was reportedly called by the monarch to justify why additional accusations of misconduct had surfaced six years following his catastrophic BBC Newsnight interview in which he had intended to vindicate himself.
Royal insiders indicate that both Charles and the Prince of Wales were incensed when Andrew was dramatically implicated in a collapsed Chinese spy case that has embroiled the government.
A Royal insider stated, “Andrew has been asked plainly what else was likely to emerge from his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, but said he could not give any guarantees. The scandal has engulfed the Royal family for far too long forcing the King to intervene and effectively banish him from Royal life.”
Andrew will no longer carry the title of Duke of York and is stepping down from his membership in the Order of the Garter, the ancient order of chivalry. William reportedly supports a stricter stance on his uncle, including barring him from his future coronation and other official events.
Upon his birth in 1960, Andrew automatically became a prince as the son of a monarch. This status can only be altered if a legal document authorized by the monarch is issued by the King.
It’s also alleged that Andrew insisted Ms Giuffre sign a one-year gag order to prevent her allegations from tarnishing the late Queen’s platinum jubilee.
His notorious Newsnight interview was likened to an “injection of jet fuel” for her legal team, and allegedly raised the possibility of “subpoenaing” Andrew’s ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, and daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, for the legal case.
Andrew, residing in the 30-bedroom Royal Lodge mansion, released a statement last week stating he was relinquishing his Duke of York title and honors to avoid diverting attention from the monarch and the Royal family’s work.
He has been embroiled in a series of controversies over the past few years, including reaching an out-of-court settlement with Ms. Giuffre in 2022, who had filed a civil lawsuit against him.
