King Charles III may have taken steps to rebuild his relationship with his son, Prince Harry, but that doesn’t mean he’ll restore his official duties any time soon, the Daily Mail reported on Monday, September 22.
“The king is a forgiving man,” a source told the outlet, “but has been absolutely clear in upholding his late mother’s decision that there cannot be ‘half-in, half-out’ members of the working royal family.”
The source blamed insiders close to Harry, 41, and his wife, Meghan Markle, 44, for encouraging speculation that Harry might use his recent trip to the U.K., during which he had a nearly hour-long meeting with his father, 76, as a sign that he might resume some occasional royal duties.
“Whoever is behind [the Sussexes] seems to have mistaken a brief tea and a slice of cake for the Treaty of Versailles,” the source told the Daily Mail.

The speculation from “supposed Sussex sources are precisely why the King and Royal family are so hesitant to embark on any road to rapprochement,” another insider told the outlet. “If the intention is to encourage a rebuilding of trust and relationships, they serve the precise opposite effect.”
As Star previously reported, Harry hinted at a possible homecoming for his family, including kids Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 3, during a recent conversation with his pal Joss Stone.
The English singer, 38, saw the Duke of Sussex at the WellChild Awards in London on September 8 and told Hello! magazine that he was very curious about her decision to return to the U.K. after living in the States.
“He also asked about how we were settling back in and was genuinely interested in our move home,” Stone told the outlet in a story published on Friday, September 19. “Maybe Harry will move back too. That would be nice.”
