King Charles will soon be in the U.S. to meet with Donald Trump, but a former royal butler doesn’t believe the monarch will reunite with his son Prince Harry.
The 77-year-old will travel to America on April 27 and is expected to stay until April 30. He will be joined by his wife Queen Camilla, with the couple expected to attend a state dinner with the president and his wife Melania Trump on April 28.
It’s not yet been confirmed if Charles will meet up with Harry during the visit, but former royal butler Grant Harrold has admitted it woud be a “real surprise” if the Duke of Sussex reunited with his father in America. Harry is back in America, having just been to Australia with his wife, Meghan Markle.
Speaking exclusively to The Express US on behalf of Action Network, Grant Harrold, who worked for King Charles between 2004–2011, said, “When the King travels to the states, he and Harry will be in different parts of the country, so I very much doubt they’ll have the chance to see each other.
“If it were my parents, I’d have made the journey, but Harry and Meghan may have other commitments.”
Grant continued, “The real surprise would be if Harry did turn up, and I guess you never know. Although, based on the past few years, I’d err on the side of caution and assume they’ll be busy in California.”
He also pointed out Charles would be unlikely to have time to meet up with Harry as his visit isn’t a long one.
“The King will also have a packed schedule, and when he’s that busy, there is very little time for anything else, even family, which the late Queen was famously strict about,” the royal expert explained.
He concluded, “So I don’t expect any public acknowledgement. Journalists may well try to ask Harry and Meghan about the visit, but I don’t think anything will be said publicly.”
Charles’ state visit was confirmed by Trump on Truth Social earlier this month. Posting on social media, the 79-year-old said he was looking forward to the “terrific” occasion.
“Melania and I are pleased to announce that Their Majesties, the King and Queen of the United Kingdom, will visit the United States for a Historic State Visit from April 27-30th, which will include a beautiful Banquet Dinner at the White House on the evening of April 28th,” the president said.
He continued, “This momentous occasion will be even more special this year, as we commemorate the 250th Anniversary of our Great Country. I look forward to spending time with the King, whom I greatly respect. It will be TERRIFIC!”
