Kirsten Dunst, who brought the memorable character of high school cheer captain Torrance Shipman to life in the 2000 film Bring It On, revealed in a new interview that her opinion on the possibility of making a sequel to the cult classic has changed.
Dunst recently spoke with Entertainment Tonight at an event, with the interviewer asking her, “Are we getting any closer to a possible sequel? Is that something that interests you?”
The 43-year-old boldly replied, “No.”
Elaborating on her reasoning, Dunst said, “I’m like, leave good things in the…right? Like, where they are?”
“What if you had more of a say, as like a producer?” questioned the interviewer in response, but Dunst wasn’t having it, replying, “No, no, no,” as she shook her head.
She declared, “I don’t need to put on a cheerleading outfit. I don’t even know what I would do. Be a coach, or something?”

Dunst’s Opinion Completely Changed From Last Year
The Spider-Man star’s recent comments reflect a change in opinion from what she said last spring. In April 2024, Dunst was asked a similar question about the possibility of a Bring It On sequel by Entertainment Tonight, with the actress a bit more open to the idea at the time.
“I mean, it depends. Everyone’s bringing back their stuff, right?” she said.
Dunst went on, sharing appreciation for fans’ desire to see more, saying that she was open to returning, “As long as it’s not embarrassing.”
Despite these past comments, it looks like Dunst doesn’t feel that way anymore, and fans shouldn’t get their hopes up about seeing a Bring It On sequel anytime soon.
The Cult Classic Bring It On Spawned a Spinoff Franchise
While the cast of the original 2000 film never returned for a follow-up, there were plenty of films released in the years since that take place in the same world of cheerleading.
This includes 2004’s Bring It On Again, starring Anne Judson-Yager and Bree Turner, 2006’s Bring It On: All or Nothing starring Hayden Panettiere and Solange Knowles, 2007’s Bring It On: In It to Win It with Ashley Benson and Cassie Scerbo, and 2009’s Bring It On: Fight to the Finish with Christina Milian.
The franchise then took a break for almost a decade, returning with 2017’s Bring It On: Worldwide Cheersmack and 2022’s Bring It On: Cheer or Die, with the most recent project a comedy horror film.
