I legitimately had not realized – sorry, KoЯn – was still around, nor that it hadn’t put out any new music in four years, so color me surprised to see that the band just released a new video for a song it just debuted to promote Diablo IV’s new expansion.
“Blizzard Entertainment today debuted a music video for Reward the Scars, an original new song created by Korn, the multi-platinum, GRAMMY Award-winning band whose influence has shaped heavy music for over three decades,” the band and Blizzard announce today. “The song, released alongside the new Diablo IV expansion, Lord of Hatred, is Korn’s first new music in over four years. Channeling the emotional weight, intensity, and darkness that both brands are known for, Reward the Scars explores what remains after the fight: pain, survival, and what that ultimately turns you into.”
It’s actually not as random as it sounds; apparently, Korn frontman Jonathan Davis is a big Diablo fan. Also worth noting is that the press materials came with a gigantic list of credits for all the animators, artists, stylists, crew, and production staff involved in the video. Nice.
We pubbed our own preview of Diablo IV’s Lord of Hatred this past weekend; MOP’s Carlo zerged the whole expansion during the press preview and loved it, though he still thinks D4 needs to find its own unique identity in the OARPG space.
The music video is below.
