KPop Demon Hunters Might Never Get a Live Action Adaptation

According to the BBC, the creator of KPop Demon Hunters, Maggie Kang, has gone on record saying that she doesn’t foresee a live-action version of the franchise ever coming to fruition. Although the creator has outright confirmed there will be more projects in the Demon Hunters franchise, none of them will be live-action. According to her, the characters just do not translate well to the real world. Many characters’ expressions and incredible action sequences would have to be severely toned down to work in other media.

“There’s so many elements of the tone and the comedy that are so suited for animation…It’s really hard to imagine these characters in a live action world. It would feel too grounded. So totally it wouldn’t work for me.” Maggie Kang in an interview with the BBC.

Although many fans might be quick to correct the creator, due to their love for the show. Her observation is insightfully accurate. It’s not that Maggie Kang isn’t willing to continue KPop Demon Hunters, but more so that she’s unwilling to sacrifice certain aspects of the franchise to create a live-action adaptation. However, knowing Netflix, Kang might not have a choice.

Given that Netflix likes to make live-action versions of every title it touches, Kang might eventually be offered a sum she cannot deny. That, or Netflix might flat-out buy the franchise from the creator so that they might have creative control. While that outcome is exceedingly unlikely, the outcry for a live-action version of the show is already extremely potent.

In the end, while KPop Demon Hunters might not receive a live-action adaptation. The series is set to continue well into the future. The creators behind the phenomenon believe that there are still more stories to tell within the Demon Hunters world. Although some fans were excited for a live-action adaptation, the creator’s insight becomes incredibly apparent after it’s been pointed out. KPop Demon Hunters is incredibly amazing, but it just wouldn’t work as a live-action adaptation.
