Now that Kristen Stewart has briefly switched trails from actor to director through her directorial debut film The Chronology of Water starring Imogen Poots, Stewart knows better: what’s challenging and how one role differs from the other.

In a conversation with The Times of London, Stewart opened up about the struggles of being an actress. “Actresses get treated like shit, I’ve got to tell you, people think anyone could be an actress,” she said.

She continued, explaining how the directors are viewed from a different lens: “But the first time I sat down to talk about my movie as a director, I thought, wow, this is a different experience, they are talking to me like I’m somebody with a brain.”

“There’s this idea that directors have otherworldly abilities, which is not true. It’s an idea perpetuated by men,” she told the outlet. “Not to sound like I’m complaining all the time, but it’s worse for female actors than male ones — they get treated like puppets, but they are not. Imogen [Poots] put her whole body and soul into this movie.”

Stewart made her acting debut in a non-speaking part in Disney’s film The Thirteenth Year (1999). She went on to work in projects like The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas (2000), The Safety of Objects (2001), Panic Room (2002), and more, finally landing global success in the teen drama film The Twilight Saga.

*** NO REPRODUCTION FEE *** DUBLIN : 26/2/2026 : Dublin Airport strikes a chord with new music wall celebrating Ireland’s greatest artists. Dublin Airport is turning up the volume on its passenger welcome with the unveiling of a new music wall in Terminal 1, celebrating some of Ireland’s most iconic performers. Located in the arrivals corridor of Pier 2 in Terminal 1, the vibrant installation features striking images of 11 legendary Irish acts, including U2, Thin Lizzy, The Cranberries, Christy Moore and Sinéad O’Connor. The wall was officially opened this week by Graham Knox, Danny O’Reilly and Conor Egan from The Coronas, who also feature in the display. But this is more than just a photo opportunity. Newly installed speakers mean passengers are greeted by the sound as well as the sight of Ireland’s musical greats - creating a fitting soundtrack to their arrival. LED lighting and spotlights add to the atmosphere, transforming what was once a blank corridor into a celebration of Irish creativity. According to Gary McLean, Managing Director of Dublin Airport: “Ireland is known around the world for its music, and we wanted to reflect that as soon as passengers arrive into the country. As Ireland’s main gateway, we pride ourselves on offering a warm and memorable welcome and this installation really hits the right note. The reaction has been fantastic, with many passengers stopping for selfies beside their favourite acts. So far, Sinéad O’Connor and U2 are proving especially popular and there was a great buzz around with the Coronas here to officially unveil the new installation." Dublin Airport is planning to introduce more sense of place installations across the terminals, shining a spotlight on other areas where Ireland excels, including sport and the arts.
