Ahead of the “Euphoria” Season 3 premiere on Sunday and his Coachella performance this weekend, composer Labrinth spoke out about the show and his music.
In a new Instagram story, he wrote, “People will comfortably lie in this industry and still call themselves honest people. So no cap, I decided to remove whatever music I had in it.”
He went on to say, “I spoke to HBO, as far as I know, we are cool. I left because, last truth, when I work for someone, their vision is paramount to me, but I don’t let people treat me like shit.”
The comment seems to come after Sam Levinson told Rolling Stone, “He’s an incredible collaborator and someone who really built the foundation of the sound of ‘Euphoria.’” With the show jumping forward five years, Levinson added, the characters were out of high school, so the “pop roots of it have faded away.” He said, “In general, I was less interested in needle drops and more interested in something that guided us through this world.”
Composer Hans Zimmer is leading the score with full composer credits when the new season airs on Sunday night.
Last month, Labrinth, who had composed the music for “Euphoria” seasons 1 and 2, appeared to distance himself from the show when he wrote, “I’m done with this industry. Fuck Columbia. Double fuck ‘Euphoria.’ I’m out. Thank you and good night x.”
Labrinth has become best known for his contributions to the “Euphoria” score and soundtrack, with songs like “All for Us,” “Formula,” “Mount Everest” and “Never Felt So Alone” — which features vocals from Billie Eilish and was nominated for a Grammy — racking up millions of streams.
