During set three of Monday’s home volleyball against the South Pemiscot Bulldogs with Twin Rivers leading 24-21, Royals sophomore Addison Johnson pushed the ball over the net where it fell securing the set victory 25-21 coming away with a clean sweep of the Bulldogs leading the Royals to their second win of the season.
“It was great,” said Royals head coach Marisa Vancil. “I changed the rotation and it worked. I’m excited to see how far we will go, and it felt great to have a good comeback after that.”
Set one began as a back-and-forth affair with multiple lead changes throughout. It came to an end when sophomore Royal Lilly Hillis served the ball, watching it deflect out of bounds and giving her team a 1-0 series lead.
Set two the Bulldogs opened with a 3-0 start before Hillis got the Royals their first point courtesy of a spike, which led to a 12-4 run putting the Royals up 12-7, forcing a timeout from Bulldogs head coach Jennifer Hall.
When play resumed, the Royals continued to dominate on the offensive end of the floor en route to another set victory with multiple players contributing: Raegan Thomas, Hillis, Katie Acre, Emery Stratton and Rylin Jones. The set concluded when Acre served the ball as it deflected out of bounds, putting the Royals up 2-0 on the night.
“When we have a good pass, we always get a good set,” Hillis said. “Raegan [Thomas] set us up pretty good, and we always get that hit if Raegan has a good pass.”
