  • Lainey Wilson postponed a September 20 concert after losing her voice.

  • On September 24, she joined The Late Show with Stephen Colbert for an interview and performance.

  • Her tour is set to resume on September 25.

Lainey Wilson was forced to postpone a concert last week after losing her voice. She told her fans on Instagram that her September 20 show in Houston, Texas, was being rescheduled for November. The singer said she was “deeply sorry” and had a very raspy voice as she explained that her vocal coach advised her to take a break.

Thankfully, she seems to be feeling better and was able to appear on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on September 24. She wore a 1970s-inspired brown patchwork suit for the occasion and told the talk show host about her small town of 157 people, which Stephen called “a big family.” Lainey agreed that they’re more like family—”they’re there when you need them, there when you don’t.”

She continued, “I’m so proud of where I come from, it’s called Baskin, Louisiana. Where I’m from, country music is just life, we eat, sleep, and breathe it. It’s about the storytelling. When you’re from a town of 157, you live on the edge of your seat waiting for the next story.”

Lainey explained that she wrote her first song at age nine (“I was writing about tequila and cigarettes,” she said). She told the story of living in a camper trailer for three years in Nashville as she got her start in the music industry and said, “I have this weird sense of faith about knowing that this is what I was gonna do, no matter what. I feel like it’s more than a hobby, more than a passion. It’s my calling. And I knew that at 9 years old.”

She then took the stage to perform “Somewhere Over Laredo” in an all-pink ensemble, complete with pink bell bottoms. Lainey’s tour is scheduled to return on September 25. Her latest performance makes us think she’s on the mend and ready to get back on the road!
