Lamar Odom is opening up about hitting a major milestone in his sobriety.
The former Los Angeles Lakers star shared on his Instagram Story that he has been sober for 100 days.
“There are days I don’t think I could make it,” Odom wrote Thursday. “But with God’s grace, the love of the people around me, and a commitment to myself, I’m still standing.”
Odom is sharing his update on his sobriety, following his January arrest when he was pulled over in Las Vegas for a DUI. The two-time NBA champion dismissed allegations that he wasn’t under the influence of alcohol or narcotics, according to TMZ. Odom received two traffic violations for driving more than 41+ miles per hour over the regulated speed limit and improper lane change/failure to maintain lane. He later spoke out about how he wanted to focus on moving forward.
“I am learning from this experience and remain committed to my continued growth,” Odom told TMZ Sports. “I’ve worked hard to rebuild my life, and taking responsibility is an essential part of that process.”
He added, “I am cooperating fully, staying honest, and focused on moving forward with integrity. Thank you to those who continue to support me.”
The former Lakers star spoke in great detail about his sobriety journey in his Netflix documentary, Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom. He included in the documentary, which also focuses on his career in the NBA and personal relationships, about his near-fatal 2015 overdose. Odom noted that he hopes that fans can see his struggles and learn from his mistakes as he uses his platform to support those who could also be suffering.
“I hope I’ll be put in a situation where I can help others that suffer from the brain disease of addiction,” he said. “There’s no doubt in my mind that’s probably why God spared me to use my platform to be able to change others lives that are going through it.”
He added that addiction also weighs on the person’s loved ones.
“Now I know I have a purpose that was even bigger than basketball,” he said.
