DC entered its new era with Superman, and fans believed that this version looked way better than the previous one. But it seems James Gunn is not done yet and knows exactly how to take things forward. 2025 turned out to be a great year for DCU, as the newest Superman flick soared to massive success, while Peacemaker returned with an enthralling second season. With 2026 just around the corner, fans are waiting to see which DCU title they are going to see first.
One of the most highly anticipated projects in the DC Universe is the upcoming Lanterns series, which will give fans a detailed look at Green Lantern characters Hal Jordan and John Stewart. In October 2025, it was revealed that the aforementioned project had been delayed and fans would have to wait longer to see the comic book characters on their screens. However, it seems the news of Lanterns getting delayed was just a rumor, and if reports are true, the series is set to premiere in early 2026.
In a letter shared with the stakeholders (via Screen Rant), Discovery’s CEO, David Zaslav, noted that Lanterns will be the next DCU project to come out and will be available for streaming on HBO Max in early 2026. The letter read, “Importantly, with its first theatrical release, Superman, DC Studios marked a new era and critical first step on its 10-year journey to deliver fans a fresh and cohesive storyline across film and television, while bringing new heroes and villains to the surface. Building on Superman’s foundation, upcoming DC Studios projects include Lanterns, which will debut on HBO Max in early 2026.”
Moreover, he didn’t shy away from saying that Supergirl and Clayface are slated to be the two theatrical releases in 2026. Zaslav concluded the letter by saying, “We remain incredibly excited about the momentum at DC Studios and its prospects to re-connect with fans and ignite the next generation of these beloved characters.”
His comments make it clear that DCU is taking things seriously and doesn’t want to give its fans a reason to lose faith. Fans should definitely gear up for the partnership between Jordan and Stewart, as they are two characters who have rarely made appearances in live-action projects. As a result, it would be nice to see two iconic comic book characters getting their own show.
The series has officially wrapped filming. Aaron Pierre is playing the role of John Stewart, while Kyle Chandler will be seen portraying Hal Jordan on the show.
