Hola, is Jon Bon Jovi there?
Yes, he was when Mexican music superstar Carin Leon called to tell him about Leon’s headlining residency at the Las Vegas Sphere, in an Instagram post that doubled as an ad for WhatsApp and Meta Ray-Ban Display smart glasses.
In the post that went up Friday, Sept. 19, Leon told the news of his September 2026 residency to Bon Jovi as well as performers Sergio Ramos and Maluma, in a WhatsApp call made through his Meta glasses.
The spot was shared on the stars’ socials.
Jon Bon Jovi attends the UK Premiere of “Thank You and Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story” on April 17, 2024 in London, England.
“Carin! Is that the Sphere I see in the back?” Bon Jovi says after Leon rings. “No way, that’s huge!”
“I’m so happy to share this moment with you,” Leon says.
“I can’t think of anyone who deserves this more than you,” the Jersey Rocker adds.
Leon will become the first Latin music performer to headline the Sphere when he does so on Sept. 11-13 next year. The shows are part of Las Vegas’ annual Mexican Independence Day celebration.
The Sphere, which opened in September 2023, features “wall-to-wall views of 160,000 square feet of LED display illuminating images at a mind-blowing 16K x 16K resolution,” according to the venue’s web site.
Leon plays conjunto norteño, Mexican music that includes elements of R&B, country and pop sounds. His latest release is a cross-genre collaboration with Kacey Musgraves called “Lost In Translation” and he has a collaboration with Bon Jovi coming up on the new version of the Bon Jovi 2024 album “Forever,” due Oct. 24.
Bon Jovi and Leon sing “We Made It Look Easy” on the new “Forever,” which features vocal collaborations with fellow music stars. Updated versions of tracks on the original album include the recent singles “Hollowman” with Bruce Springsteen and “Living Proof” with Jelly Roll.
