Miley Cyrus just shared an exciting announcement with her fans. The Hannah Montana star and singer announced on Instagram that she is finally releasing her new song “Secrets” on Friday.
The song, which features former Fleetwood Mac bandmates drummer Mick Fleetwood and singer/guitarist Lindsey Buckingham, was originally teased by her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, on his 64th birthday almost a month ago.
“For my birthday, Miley gave me the gift of music and wrote me a song called Secrets and got my favorite musicians Fleetwood Mac to play on it!” he wrote as his Instagram caption.
On Tuesday morning, the 32-year-old singer previewed the single on Instagram with a short snippet of her singing, “anywhere you go, you know I’ll follow,” with a choir singing background vocals. Before the official announcement, it was reported on X on Monday that Cyrus was sending some of her fans flowers and handwritten cards.
In June, Cyrus was a guest on Monica Lewinsky’s podcast, Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky, where she opened up about her early days as a child actress, the complicated legacy of Hannah Montana and the cost of growing up famous.
“I wrote this song about my dad because I wanted him to tell me even though there were secrets, even though I didn’t really want to know,” she admitted to Lewinsky. “I wanted to be the one he felt safe enough to tell me the things that were damning and damaging to the family. I wanted him to think that as a middle child, I’m old enough that I could take some of that.”
The Cyrus Family has been in the headlines recently because of personal conflicts, family drama, relationship issues and public arguments, which the family has been addressing publicly in recent months. Just last month, the women of the Cyrus Family: Miley, Noah, Brandi and Tish Cyrus-Purrell did a sit-down interview with The Cut and discussed their family dynamic, among other things.
Cyrus is releasing “Secrets” just four months after she put out her ninth studio album, Something Beautiful. The song will be available on all streaming platforms on Friday.
