It’s not easy to fill the shoes of a character previously portrayed and loved by one actor, let alone when that actor is Henry Cavill. It wasn’t just when the recasting news of Geralt of Rivia broke (previously played by Cavill, now by Liam Hemsworth), but the “noise” grew even louder after Netflix unveiled the first trailer of The Witcher, starring the Australian actor.
Hemsworth, who admits he was wary of the “distraction” surrounding the recasting, has now chosen to address it now that fans have gotten a taste of what he can do. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actors said:
“There was quite a bit of noise, and I had to put that aside. It started to become a distraction. I dealt with that sort of thing in the past a lot and, you know, at the end of the day, I love making movies and I love telling stories and acting. I just don’t want any of that to affect my way of telling the story that I’m trying to tell.”
When Cavill’s exit was first announced, the internet was ablaze with discussions and demands for his return. With the fandom being brutal as ever, Hemsworth recalled how he chose to stay away from this hotchpotch, “I jumped off social media and the internet most of last year.”
Whether fans are convinced by the Hunger Games star’s rendition of While Wolf – or if they ever will be – remains to be seen. Season 4 of The Witcher premieres on October 30 on Netflix.
