Who Are ‘Summer House’ Season 11’s New Cast Members?

Every child star grows up, if they’re lucky. And if “lucky” does not always seem the word for Long Island-raised screen star Lindsay Lohan, who spent much of the mid-2000s to mid-2010s awash in tabloid travails, it does apply now on her 40th birthday, on Thursday.

Settled, secure, married with a child and living in Dubai, she overcame substance abuse and erratic behavior to mount a well-received comeback.

Good and bad, it’s been a remarkable life. Here are 10 highlights.

1. Screen debut

Born in New York and raised in Cold Spring Harbor and Merrick, Lohan at 3 modeled in print ads and later made over 60 TV commercials. Her series debut came Oct. 29, 1992, in a sketch on David Letterman’s “Late Night.” After two episodes of “Sesame Street” in 1994-95 and a 1996 fire-safety short, she made her screen dramatic debut at 10 as Alli Fowler on the soap opera “Another World.”

2. Movie star

Lohan became an overnight star at 12 playing twin sisters in the 1998 comedy “The Parent Trap.” Working steadily afterward, she went on to such hits as “Freaky Friday” (2003) and “Mean Girls” (2004).

3. Substance abuse and rehab

Adopting hard-partying ways, she joined Alcoholics Anonymous in 2006 after a reprimanding letter to her from the producer of “Georgia Rule” (2007), about her unprofessional behavior affecting shooting, was leaked. The following year she began the first of multiple rehab stays.

4. Arrest, jail, community service

After convictions for drunken driving and cocaine possession in 2007, she had her first brief jail time that November. Over the next several years she would be convicted of offenses including stealing a necklace from a store, lying to police and probation violation. Her jail time collectively amounted to not many days, but house arrest, probation and community service lingered for years.

5. Out of the darkness

In an August 2013 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Lohan acknowledged her many issues and said she was committed to overcoming them. She received good notices for her 2014 stage debut, a West End revival of David Mamet’s “Speed-the-Plow” in London. And after having done mostly telefilms and indie movies throughout her troubles, she began booking TV-series guest roles.

6. Move to Dubai

In 2014, Lohan relocated to the wealthy city of Dubai in United Arab Emirates, citing its strong privacy laws and its distance from the pressures of Hollywood.

7. Comeback

Following entrepreneurial club ventures and reality TV — and occasional continued controversy, such as defending accused and later convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein in 2017 and posting a bizarre video of herself on a street chasing what she said was a Syrian family in Moscow in 2018 — she reignited her career in 2022, starting with a two-picture deal with Netflix.

8. Marriage

On April 3, 2022, Lohan married banker Bader Shammas, whom she had publicly identified as her boyfriend in a quickly removed Instagram video on Feb. 6, 2020.

9. Motherhood

In July 2023, Lohan and Shammas welcomed a son, Luai.

10. This is 40

And among her current projects, she now stars alongside Kit Harrington and Shailene Woodley in the upcoming Hulu drama miniseries “Count My Lies,” which shot in New York and on Long Island.
