Lionel Richie’s residence was targeted by burglars while the music icon was inside his home.
The 76-year-old American Idol judge had to deal with an intruder at his Beverly Hills estate just after midnight on Saturday morning.
The summer of 2025 has been plagued by break-ins in Los Angeles’s most exclusive zip code. A series of other A-List celebrities have had their homes ransacked by criminals.
Lionel is the first major celebrity to be present during an alleged break-in, and his advanced home security technology has been credited with frightening the burglar away.
Law enforcement officials are reportedly optimistic that video from his surveillance cameras could help deliver justice.
TMZ went on to claim: “Investigators are looking into security footage and other evidence from the scene.”
Back in June, Brad Pitt’s residence in the Los Feliz area of LA was hit by burglars. Reports indicated at the time that three suspects “broke into the residence via the front window, ransacked the location, then fled the location with miscellaneous property.”
The star is currently selling the property for $5.5 million. On Valentine’s Day, criminals struck Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s Los Angeles residence.
Meanwhile, other celebrities, including Real Housewives personality Teddi Mellencamp and vocalist Ashlee Simpson, have also fallen victim to break-ins in recent months.
Beyond crime storylines, Lionel remains a panelist on the enduring US competition series American Idol. He became part of the judging lineup in 2018 – and the latest season, the 23rd, wrapped up earlier this year.
Lionel provided mentorship and encouragement alongside fellow musicians Luke Bryan and Carrie Underwood. Jamal Roberts emerged victorious and claimed the title in a spectacular finale that was broadcast on 18 May.
ABC renewed the program for Season 24 just over a week before Jamal secured his victory. The upcoming season is scheduled to debut in spring 2026.
The program’s official Instagram page announced the development with the message, “Dim the lights… here we go… #AmericanIdol is coming back for another season!” Lionel, Luke, and Carrie are anticipated to return – alongside presenter Ryan Seacrest.
