LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Officials said an event on Saturday will honor a groundbreaking and Grammy award-nominated Arkansas gospel music group.
Gladys McFadden and the Loving Sisters are being honored at 4 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Greater Second Baptist Church, 5615 Geyer Springs Road in Little Rock.

Event organizers said the event is more than a concert and will be “a tribute and a chance for the community to pay homage to true legends and pioneers.”
Live performances, reflections, and special presentations from artists and community leaders are planned.
According to the Encyclopedia of Arkansas, Gladys McFadden and the Loving Sisters formed when nine-year-old McFadden left the church choir, where her father was the pastor, to start the group. Sunday-morning radio performances led to their being signed to Peacock Records in the 1950s, which in turn led to increased radio airplay.
The group’s final album release was in 1978 and titled “Gospel Soul.” It received a Grammy nomination for the track “Amazing Grace.”

The group entered the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame in 2003.
