Tim Kliphuis and Jimmy Grant

8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22
The Shakedown, 1212 N. State St.

Tim Kliphuis and Jimmy Grant are a virtuoso violin/guitar duo from Holland and Los Angeles, working in the Manouche jazz tradition and celebrating the music of Stephane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt. The Shakedown, where they’ll be performing on Monday, Sept. 22, isn’t really known as a spot for jazz, but I have a sneaking feeling they can turn anywhere they go into their own personal Hot Club. Locals Pace Trumpet get the honor of opening the show.

Seffarine

7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23
FireHouse Arts and Events Center, 1314 Harris Ave.

Seffarine is a four-piece ensemble that mixes the traditional music of Morocco with flamenco. They also incorporate other styles like jazz and Persian classical music. Singer Lamiae Naki is originally from Morocco. She’s joined by guitarist Nat Hulskamp and bassist Yosmel Montejo. Manuel Gutierrez contributes percussion and flamenco dancing. They’ve toured all around the world, most recently to Australia and Indonesia, but they’re stopping by the FireHouse Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, Sept. 23.

Robert Sarazin Blake & The Happy Hour Band

5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25
Boundary Bay Brewery & Bistro, 1107 Railroad Ave.

Thursday, Sept. 25 marks the end of an era: the final Thursday happy hour in the  Boundary Bay Brewery beer garden. Robert Sarazin Blake is one of the musicians who has played there the most, and I have no doubt that he and his Happy Hour Band are going to pull out all the stops for this one. I’m expecting a lot of laughter, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see some tears mixed in.

The Librarians

7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26
Admiralty Lounge, 100 N. Commercial St.

Lots of bands aspire to leave genre cliches behind but few achieve it.  The Librarians manage to blend folk, rock, country and jazz into something truly unique, and they’re just so good at it. They are at the Admiralty Lounge on Friday, Sept. 26. It should be a good spot for them: lively but not too loud.
