The Potsdam Royals (5-1) return home Saturday determined to bounce back from their first loss of the German Football League season as they host the Berlin Rebels (1-3) in a rematch of one of the year’s closest contests.
Although the standings suggest a mismatch, the season opener told a different story. The Rebels built a 14-0 lead before the Royals rallied late to escape with a dramatic 15-14 victory, a result that serves as a reminder not to overlook their capital-city rivals.
Royals offense sets the standard
Despite last week’s narrow loss to the Dresden Monarchs, the Royals remain one of the GFL’s most productive teams. They are averaging nearly 40 points and more than 400 yards of offense per game while allowing only 12 points per contest on defense.
Quarterback Xeaiver Bullock continues to lead one of the league’s most explosive attacks, throwing for 1,353 yards and 20 touchdowns while adding 305 rushing yards and four scores on the ground. His favorite target, Maximilian McLeod, has caught 36 passes for 585 yards and seven touchdowns, while running back Chrisman Kyei has added 351 rushing yards and averaged an impressive 7.5 yards per carry.
After suffering their first defeat, the Royals will be eager to respond with a complete performance.

Rebels remain dangerous
The Rebels’ 1-3 record doesn’t tell the full story. Having already faced one of the toughest schedules in the league, Berlin has shown it can compete with the GFL’s top teams, particularly in the narrow season-opening loss to Potsdam.
Quarterback Tyquell Fields has thrown for 787 yards and six touchdowns while using his mobility to extend plays. He’ll again rely on wide receivers Jermaine Enyiagu, who has 21 catches for 287 yards and two touchdowns, Filip Uderhardt, and Nate Stewart, whose versatility includes three touchdown receptions and a kickoff return touchdown.
The Royals also know they’ll face a Berlin defense capable of creating problems after its strong performance in the first meeting.
If Potsdam protects the football and plays to its offensive potential, the defending champions should be in position to collect another important home victory. But after needing a fourth-quarter comeback to win the opener, the Royals know they can’t afford another slow start against their determined rivals.
