The Wilson Active Artists Association will celebrate local artists at the group’s summer exhibit, which opens with a reception from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 18.
The “Shades of Summer” reception offers light refreshments and the opportunity to chat with the artists who are making their mark in Wilson. The paintings on the brick walls of the Hammond Gallery quietly whisper, “It’s summer!”
The show will include Ely Cotrina’s whimsical watercolors and Alison Hesmer’s large acrylic works. Hesmer’s “Royal Botanic Gardens” was inspired from a trip to Melbourne, Australia.
Rick Tracy records his summer road trips with his art. One adventure took him to Middleburg, Virginia, and another to a Cumberland County orchard. Tracy combines aspects of each trip into one canvas.
The show will also include Elaine Marshall’s abstract “Blue Runs Through It,” a bright abstract mixed media work by Andrea Horton-Morton, and “Scorched” by Jane Gardner.
Artwork will be for sale.
The Hammond Gallery, located in the lobby of the Edna Boykin Cultural Center, is open whenever a public event is scheduled. Artwork can be purchased by looking at the tag below the work and contacting the artists directly by phone or text.
