VESTAL, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A local filmmaker has won an award on a national scale.
Howey Mitsakos is an Endwell native and a commercial filmmaker who owns Novel Studios in Vestal.
He recently won the 2025 Adobe Max Creativity Award in the independent video category for his short film Spin Cycle.
The four minute film has little to no dialogue and is mostly visual. The film was shot back in February at the Dark Horse Laundromat in Vestal.
Mitsakos says a laundromat is a place where things go in dirty, get spun around and come out clean, which he says is a perfect metaphor to represent cycles of the human mind.
Commercial Filmmaker Howey Mitsakos says, “So everyone has like a moment in their life where they know they need to make a change but they might be scared to move forward. This film is about the moment right before that happens.”
Mitsakos says he is humbled to have been flown out to Los Angeles for the Adobe Max Annual Conference of Creativity last week to receive the award.
He started his commercial filmmaking business Novel Studios in 2003 which does commercials for local, regional and national clients.
