The Kent-based property broker is one of 12 budding reality stars entering the Love Island villa this summer
Love Island contestant Aidan Murphy has revealed the top celebrity he gets compared to.
The 23-year-old property broker was revealed as part of the initial cast for the ITV reality show’s thirteenth series. He’ll be sharing the villa with fellow contestants including a former police detective, a West End performer and a model, amongst others.
He claims people compare his appearance to Hollywood star Brad Pitt, but said that he wasn’t “too sure” about the comparison himself in a chat with Bristol Live ahead of his villa debut.
“Do you reckon I look like Brad Pitt? I’ve had it previously but that was a good couple of years ago so I’m not too sure. I’m Aidan Murphy, I’m my own celebrity,” he joked.
The Kent-based contestant also revealed that Love Island isn’t his debut with reality television, having rejected a major television opportunity before signing up for the popular dating programme.
“Funnily enough I did go through an application for another show, but I didn’t take it on,” Aidan revealed, before identifying the programme. “Celebs Go Dating, yeah, that was last year but I didn’t end up going through with it.”
The Channel 4 programme – which is broadcasting its current series – features a group of well-known celebs attempting to improve their romantic prospects and discover their ideal partner. During the show, the celebrities are paired with members of the public for dates, reports OK!
Aidan elaborated: “I was very busy. It was more I was working and I just think Love Island compared to that show, it’s more sort of what I want to do. I want to find love, and I feel like this is going to give me a better opportunity at doing that.”
The Islander has been single for just over two years following an amicable separation from his ex-partner, with whom he began a relationship as a teenager. He’s now determined to find a meaningful relationship, and has vowed not to engage in sexual activity on television unless he discovers a “genuine connection.”
“I don’t plan on having sex. I think sex is a big thing on both sides,” he explained. “In order for you to have sex it’s a genuine connection between two people. I’m going in there, I’m not planning on doing it, if it happens then to me it’s more there is a genuine connection there.”
How Aidan will manage villa life is yet to be determined, as prior to advancing through the application stages, he hadn’t watched Love Island since the 2019 series where Molly-Mae Hague found romance with boxer Tommy Fury.
“When I applied it was a bit like ‘I’ll apply and see how it goes kind of thing’ and then as it got a bit more serious I was a little bit like ‘I better actually watch some of the recent series, see what I’m getting myself into’ again.”
Love Island Series 13 begins on Monday, June 1 at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
