With Spain and Argentina locked in a scoreless tie, a prerecorded segment showed Madonna dancing to “Music” atop a buggy driven by Brazilian soccer legends Ronaldo and Ronaldinho. The trio traveled through the tunnel before appearing live inside New York New Jersey Stadium.
Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel then joined the Muppets, while BTS performed their hit “Dynamite.” Jason Sudeikis also appeared as his “Ted Lasso” character alongside series co-creator Brendan Hunt to introduce Bieber, who took the stage with his guitar.
Shakira followed with “Dai Dai,” before Chris Martin and a children’s choir closed the star-studded production with an anthem centered on love and unity.
The star-studded spectacle also drew President Donald Trump and several A-list celebrities, including Tom Brady, Timothée Chalamet, Brad Pitt, and Tom Cruise.
