Mahesh Babu and Namrata Shirodkar’s Indian production shingle GMB Entertainment has unveiled the first look at “Rao Bahadur,” bringing acclaimed filmmaker Venkatesh Maha into the banner’s fold.
The psychological drama, which stars Satya Dev in the title role, showcases an elaborate poster featuring the actor in aristocratic regalia surrounded by peacock feathers and ornate details. The visual suggests the film’s exploration of decaying nobility and internal conflict.
Maha, who previously helmed the critically acclaimed “C/o Kancharapalem” and “Uma Maheswara Ugra Roopasya,” is writing, directing and editing the project. The filmmaker describes it as “a Telugu story made for the world,” positioning the pic for international appeal.
Production duties are shared between A+S Movies and SriChakraas Entertainments. A+S previously partnered with GMB on the successful “Major,” while SriChakraas backed the well-received “KA.”
The first footage will arrive via what’s being called “Not Even a Teaser,” launching theatrically on Aug. 15, India’s Independence Day, before hitting digital platforms the following week.
For Satya Dev, the transformation required significant commitment. “Five hours in makeup each morning gave me the rare chance to disappear into the character completely,” the actor said. “By the time we rolled, I wasn’t just playing Rao Bahadur, I was living him.”
The Telugu-language film is eyeing a summer 2026 release with plans for subtitled international distribution.
Satya Dev stars alongside Vijay Deverakonda in “Kingdom,” which is currently on release. Next up for Mahesh Babu as an actor is a project identified as “SSMB29,” directed by “RRR” filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli, where he stars alongside Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
