There are a few games with the narrative heft that the BioShock games have. The first game has one of the most iconic stories in gaming.
It became so popular that there have been talks of a movie adaptation for years. Well, it looks like it’s finally going to happen with The Long Walk director Francis Lawrence at the helm.
The film will be produced by Netflix, and they are keeping details under wraps. Luckily, longtime producer Roy Lee is finally letting some info slip. He revealed which BioShock game the movie is going to be based on.
“Netflix wants us to keep everything under wraps,” Lee told The Direct. “But it’s definitely going to be based on the first BioShock game.”
It makes sense to base the story on the first game. It’s the most iconic story in the franchise and should translate well to film. However, it’s still going to be a while before we see the BioShock movie.
According to Lee, Lawrence is making another Hunger Games film before he gets to work on BioShock.
“BioShock was delayed for a little bit where we had to do some more script work,” Lee said. “And so as the script work is being done, we shot The Long Walk, and he was already committed to doing the next Hunger Games movie. And so it’s just waiting for him whenever the Hunger Games is completed, and the script is just being worked on right now.”
Fortunately, it sounds like the movie will get made at some point, but it’s hard to imagine it hitting screens before 2028.
