Instagram has been busy this week adding new features to Reels. Here’s what’s new:
- An updated undo button that eases removal while editing multiple clips
- Improved timer and countdown features, plus a camera utility toolbar
- A subtle and customisable touch-up filter, without looking overly processed
Creators can also now also post 20-minute Reels for longer-form vertical storytelling. Though keep in mind: only Reels of maximum three minutes can be recommended through Instagram’s algorithm.
Instagram’s Edits app – for modifying Reels, similar to CapCut – has also received updates, including “volume ducking,” allowing creators to turn down music volume in the clip when someone is talking. New masking options also enable layering of different clips for improved transitions and effects.
What does this mean for artist marketing?
Try out Edits. Continued updates have made Edits a valuable tool for short-form video, with head of Instagram Adam Mosseri noting it can give creators an edge on reach.
Make Reels more engaging. CITIZEN The Artist does this well – check out our spotlight on him on Music Ally Pro earlier this year.
