(NewsNation) — Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s final television appearance is being called “magical” by the show’s creator.
Ian Weir, who created the Fox series “Murder in a Small Town,” spoke to TVLine about Warner’s guest appearance on the show, which airs Tuesday, Oct. 7.

“I was thrilled, of course, when he agreed to do the role,” Weir said. “I hadn’t quite let myself dare hope that someone of his stature would take this particular role, just because it wasn’t conceived as one of those big flashy guest star roles.”

According to the episode’s logline, Warner plays Richard Bannister, a protective father who becomes a lead suspect in a murder investigation when his ex-wife is killed just after returning to town. Still heartbroken years after the split, Richard wears his anger and pain on his sleeve, but his only goal in life is to keep his daughter safe.
The “Murder in the Small Town” creator said Warner was able to channel the “quiet, intense integrity” that the role required.

Malcolm-Jamal Warner dies at 54
Warner died in July in an accidental drowning after getting caught in a current at Playa Cocles in Costa Rica. He was 54.
He was in the Central American country because his daughter was taking part in an educational immersion program, his mother Pamela Warner said.
