Görel Hanser, the manager of Abba and often referred to as the band’s unofficial “fifth member,” has died at the age of 76.
The band announced Hanser’s death on social media. No cause of death was given.
“It is with deepest sorrow we announce the passing of Görel Hanser. We have lost our most loved friend and closest colleague,” the post said. “The loss is immeasurable. We ask that you respect our privacy in this time of grief.”
The band’s four members, Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, signed the statement.

According to the Daily Beast, Hanser got to know the band while working with their record label before they gained fame.
She became their personal manager when the band’s popularity exploded in the 1970s with hits such as “Fernando,” “Dancing Queen,” “Take a Chance On Me,” “Super Trooper” and “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!”
The band wrote a song to celebrate Hanser’s 30th birthday, “Sång Till Görel.”
