What critics are saying about A Big Bold Beautiful Journey
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey has garnered a largely negative response from professional critics. Variety’s Tomris Laffly wrote that “the only destination A Big Bold Beautiful Journey approaches in the end is an unfortunate bore.”
Nick Schager of The Daily Beast referred to the movie as a “wannabe winsome fairy tale about confronting fears, atoning for sins, and forgiving oneself” before declaring it “a pile-up of preciousness.”
In another scathing review, Slant Magazine’s Anzhe Zhang noted that the main characters lack nuance to such a degree that “even when we learn that he survived a heart condition and she misses her mother, it’s impossible to be moved by their journey.”
Kevin Maher of The Times (UK) observed that A Big Bold Beautiful Journey has such a “leaden” script and “saccharine” direction that “you may never want to see another Robbie or Farrell turn again.”
However, not all reviews are negative. ComingSoon’s Jonathan Sim gave A Big Bold Beautiful Journey nine out of 10 stars. “This is the most emotional movie of the year,” reads Sim’s review. “It’s sweet, tender, and oh so romantic.”
