On April 14, the world watched as Katy Perry went to space aboard the all-female Blue Origin New Shepard rocket. But there was one person who didn’t tune in to observe the monumental occasion: Mariah Carey.
During an appearance on the Scott Mills Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2, the “Emotions” singer, 56, appeared stunned when host Scott Mills brought up Perry’s history-making expedition. “Did she go to space?” a confused Carey asked.
“Not for long,” Mills responded.
“Where’d she go?” Carey asked, still visibly perplexed. “Into orbit and back?”
“She’s like floating in the…” she continued. “And this is true?”
Mills then promised Carey he was, in fact, telling the truth. “I’ve not made this up,” he said. “This is true… she was proper in space.”

“Wow. Alright Katy,” said Carey, who seemed to be impressed. “I’m not mad at her. That’s pretty amazing.”
Carey went on to make it clear has no plans to follow in the 40-year-old former American Idol judge’s footsteps.
“I think I’ve done enough,” she quipped when Mills asked if she’d like to go to space as well.
The Blue Origin New Shepard NS-31 mission— which was made up of Perry, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyễn, Gayle King, Kerianne Flynn, and Lauren Sánchez — launched from El Paso, Texas and lasted just 10 minutes and 21 seconds. The trip marked the all-female crew to fly to space in over 60 years.
