Sheen’s father Martin Sheen, and brother Emilio Estévez, declined to participate in his new documentary “aka Charlie Sheen”
Today, Netflix released the two-part documentary “aka Charlie Sheen.” Noticeably missing from the episodes are the star’s father Martin Sheen, and Brother Emilio Estévez.
In the first part of the series, their absence is addressed with a message reading “Martin Sheen and Emilio Estévez declined to participate.” Sheen was also asked to discuss his father and brother’s decision not to be a part of it during the documentary itself.
“Emilio and Dad, they fully support me. They’re rooting for me in ways you can’t even imagine. But I can’t expect people to revisit all the drug abuse and all the s***** choices that hurt the people I love,” said 60-year-old Sheen. “Would I love them both in this? Absolutely. But I completely understand why they chose not to.”
The documentary takes an unfiltered look at the star’s rise to fame and later, fall from the spotlight after struggles with addiction. It features a star-studded list of interview appearances by those close to Sheen, including his ex-wives, former co-stars, and oldest brother Ramon Estévez.
Sheen discusses his relationship with father Martin, 85, in “aka Charlie Sheen” as well as his memoir, which was released Tuesday, September. 9, right before the documentary. He explores how the relationship his own father had with substance abuse affected Sheen’s own, and his ability to get sober.
“aka Charlie Sheen” is now streaming on Netflix.
