When Thunderbolts* hit theaters back in May, it was the start of a tumultuous and unexpected summer movie season, in which, somehow, all the superheroes were defeated at the box office by the dinosaurs from Jurassic World. But, among recent Marvel fare, Thunderbolts* represents a quietly confident Marvel comeback; a movie that is both dark and funny, and, most crucially, sets up the rest of the MCU for the next year or so.
Because of the revelation that the Thunderbolts* were secretly The New Avengers all along, the importance of the movie was surprisingly unassuming. And while it’s possible this tricky bit of marketing undersold the movie, that notion doesn’t detract from its quality. And, if you somehow slept on Thunderbolts*, it’s finally hitting Disney+ very soon.

Thunderbolts* Disney+ streaming date and time
Thunderbolts+ will start streaming on Disney+ on Wednesday, August 27, at 12:00 A.M. Eastern time, which means if you’re on the West Coast, it will arrive around 9:00 P.M.
How Thunderbolts* fits into Avengers: Doomsday
In 2026, the current Marvel saga will continue with Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday. The post-credits scene of Thunderbolts* found the New Avengers encountering the Fantastic Four, entering into the regular Marvel universe, from a parallel dimension. We were also told that there was some controversy between the “New Avengers” and the existing “Avengers” led by Sam Wilson/Captain America.
Clearly, all of these superheroes will have to resolve their differences to face Doctor Doom. Maybe.
