The second ISU AfterDark of the semester will be held from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday, featuring comedy duo Mission IMPROVable and Matthew “MatPat” Patrick.
ISU AfterDark is an event that is held at night, three times a semester, on Fridays in the Memorial Union (MU).
“AfterDark is a free event for ISU students and their guests that takes place three times a semester. It’s a substance-free event designed to give students something to do on some evenings,” Michael Farmer, ISU AfterDark president and junior in computer engineering, said.
The event hosts two guest stars and has activities co-sponsored by student organizations from across campus throughout the MU.
“We want [student organizations] to be there, because we want to collaborate with clubs and really connect with other student organizations and get them involved in such a large university-wide event,” Farmer said.
The two main performances will be held in the Durham Great Hall:
- A performance from top-ranked comedy duo, Mission IMPROVable, at 9 p.m.
- A moderated conversation with YouTube star Matthew “Matpat” Patrick, at 11 p.m.
- Note: There is a limit of two non-student guests per ISU student for these Great Hall acts. No bags will be allowed in the Great Hall.
Events on the ground level and first floor:
- M-Shop Karaoke, hosted by Project Legacy, at the Maintenance Shop, from 9 p.m. to midnight
- CyBowl & Billiards, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
- “Connections” Student Art Exhibit, at the MU Art Gallery, from 9 to 11 p.m.
There will also be free Panda Express at 10 p.m., while supplies last.
“We always like to do free food, and it usually runs out pretty fast,” Farmer said.
Some of the events on the second level of the MU are:
- Bingo, hosted by the First Year Council, in the Sun Room/South Ballroom, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
- Catapult Building & Sphero Driving Course, sponsored by Cardinal Space Mining Club in the Campanile Room, from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m.
- Stand Up Comedy, sponsored by the Stand-Up Comedy Club, in Room 2630, at 10 p.m.
Some of the events on the third floor of the MU are:
- Henna Workshop, sponsored by the International Student Council & Indian Student Association, in Room 3534, from 9 p.m. to midnight
- Paint Your Own Pottery, in Room 3580, from 9 p.m. to midnight
- Tango Lessons, sponsored by the Tango Social Club, at MU 3512, from 9 to 11 p.m.
Farmer’s favorite part of ISU AfterDark is seeing the culmination of the team’s work and Bingo.
“My favorite part is just seeing everything come together, and Bingo as well,” Farmer said. “We have hundreds and hundreds of people coming in, and we’re just giving away prizes. It’s a fun atmosphere, and it’s just great seeing so many people just having something fun to do with their friends.”
